INVITATION TO JOURNALISTS

Newswise — How is the environment affecting our health?

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) invites journalists from both Canada and the United States to a workshop focusing on health and the environment. The workshop will be held this coming December 4th and 5th 2008, at the Delta Vancouver Suites, 550 Hastings Street West in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The CIHR Workshop for Journalists is presented by the CIHR Institute of Human Development, Child and Youth Health (IHDCYH) and the Institute of Population and Public Health (IPPH) in partnership with the University of British Columbia (UBC). We invite you to join CIHR-funded researchers to explore some of the biggest questions concerning our health and the environment.

The workshop will feature presentations by leading researchers. The workshop will cover:

Key concepts of environmental impacts on the health of the population Health consequences of climate change Understanding and evaluating the quality of study results The amount of emphasis journalists should put on individual epidemiologic studies Environmental connections to asthma and cancer Translating research to policy

We invite you to take advantage of this unique opportunity to explore and discuss the latest findings with today's leading researchers.

Register soon as seating is limited. There is no cost to participate in the workshop, but you will be responsible for your own travel and accommodation costs.
