Free Colon Cancer Health Expo

WHAT: Free Health Expo on Colon Cancer. This two hour public education session is free and will provide an opportunity to ask expert gastroenterologists about the risks of colon cancer, lifesaving screening tests and health strategies to reduce the threat of colon cancer. Free screening tests will be provided.

WHO: Thousands of physicians from the American College of Gastroenterology who specialize in digestive diseases and screen for colon cancer will gather for their 63rd Annual Scientific Meeting in Boston. An expert panel of nationally recognized physicians will review the latest findings about colon cancer screening and prevention. Special Guests include Howard K. Koh, MD, MPH Commissioner, Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

WHY: The American College of Gastroenterology is dedicated to educating the public about colon cancer, the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States. Colon cancer is largely curable when detected early and can be prevented by the timely removal of pre-cancerous growths from the colon. This year, a new colon cancer preventive screening benefit was enacted in the Medicare program, making lifesaving colorectal cancer preventive screening available to millions of Medicare beneficiaries.
