Newswise — The 2011 Global Business Forum will take place at Baylor University's Hankamer School of Business March 21-30. The focus of the forum, "Global Energy: Sufficiency and Sustainability," hopes to inform and inspire discussion about the future of the energy industry among students, industry professionals and executives.
There is no charge for attending the forum. All events are open to the public and take place on the fifth floor of the Cashion Academic Center on the Baylor campus, unless otherwise noted. Online registration is required for events where meals are served. Seating is limited.

The fifth annual Global Business Forum will begin on March 21 with a screening of the film, "The Big Energy Gamble." The NOVA-produced film explores California's ambitious initiative to cut carbon-dioxide emissions in the state by the year 2020.
The forum will continue on the afternoon of March 22 with the panel discussion "Sustainable Energy in the Developing World." The panel will be moderated by Baylor's Sustainability coordinator, Smith Getterman, and will include Richard Hansen, founder and CEO of Soluz Inc.; Brian Thomas, senior lecturer of electrical and computer engineering and faculty adviser for Engineers With a Mission at Baylor; and Megan Rapp, U.N. consultant and a Columbia University graduate student.
The Waco Chamber of Commerce will host a reception at 5:30 on March 23, followed by an opening dinner and presentation at the Cashion Academic Center on "Energy Security: Myths and Realities," given by Charles Ebinger, director of the Energy Security Initiative at The Brookings Institution. Both events on this evening require online registration.
On Thursday March 24, the forum will continue at 9:30 a.m. with Bob Tippee, editor of Oil and Gas Journal and Gürcan Gülen, senior energy economist at the Center for Energy Economics at the University of Texas at Austin, speaking on "Energy in Economic Development." At 11 a.m., Todd Perry, a senior analyst at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and Paul Clegg, executive director of Mizuho Securities Co., Ltd., will address the "Outlook for Renewable Energy."
Joe Barnes, Bonner Means Baker Fellow at Rice University's Baker Institute will speak on "The Geopolitics of Oil" at a 12:30 p.m. luncheon. The luncheon requires online registration.
The Thursday program will conclude with a session on "Energy Sufficiency and Sustainability: The Outlook from Industry," beginning at 2 p.m. Speakers will include Mark McCollum, executive vice president and CFO of Halliburton, and John E. Lowe, assistant to the CEO at ConocoPhillips.
On Friday, March 25, an interdisciplinary panel discussion on "Revolutions in the Middle East and the Global Energy Market" will convene at 3 p.m. Panelists will include faculty and staff of Baylor's Middle East Studies program, including William G. Baker, Randall Brown, Mark Long, William A. Mitchell and Lynn Tatum.
In a related event, T. Boone Pickens, chairman of BP Capital Management, joins Baylor President Ken Starr for On Topic, a casual conversation about issues facing our nation. This event takes place March 30 at 7 p.m. in Waco Hall.
The 2011 Global Business Forum is sponsored by the McBride Center for International Business. The center was founded in 1992 to provide general coordination and support for international activities at Baylor's Hankamer School of Business.
