Newswise — Next weekend marks Black Friday, known in the United States as the biggest shopping day of the year for Americans. It is often the biggest shopping day for Canadians who cross the border looking for the best shopping deal as well. But, what does this do to our Canadian retailers and our economy?

Mandeep Malik, assistant professor of strategic market leadership at the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University, is available to comment on Black Friday.

"The dark clouds of a sluggish economy are going to impact holiday season shopping no doubt but the brunt will be borne by Canadian retailers given the significant loss to cross border shopping,” says Malik. “The dollar parity, better prices and hard to beat deals fueled by consumer desire to save, save, save will make this a black Friday for our retailers. Keep in mind the pace of online shopping that is being facilitated by US retailers is already driving millions away from our retail books.”
