The term 'buyer beware' is never more true than when buying products from retailers going out of business. Other companies called liquidators, often come in and help a store owner sell as many items as they can quickly to speed up the liquidation process.

"At this point, the store is not concerned with customer loyalty, they are concerned with cash flow and getting out the business," says Mickey Gee, UAB marketing instructor. "Consumers can't return items in situations like these, even if they are defective. This goes for any type of retail store -- electronics, appliances, clothing or home items."

Gee suggests that consumers looking for deals should stick with well-established stores that deal in liquidated goods. "These are the stores that will still be here tomorrow, next week or next year."
