Newswise — Among the approved 177 scientific abstracts presented at the AANEM 61st Annual Meeting, only one was chosen by the Research Committee of the AANEM Foundation for Research & Education to receive the Best Abstract Award. K. Ming Chan, MD, of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, will receive the award for his work entitled, “Post-Surgical Electrical Stimulation Enhances Sensory Function Following Digital Nerve Transection: A Double Blind, Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial.”
This is not the first time that Dr. Chan has been recognized for his research at the AANEM Annual Meeting. He received the Golseth Young Investigator Award in 1996 and Best Abstract in 2002. This year’s meeting will be held October 29-November 1, 2014, in Savannah, GA.
“Early on as a trainee, the annual meetings gave me an opportunity to meet senior colleagues and scientists who shared similar interests. The recognition from getting the Golseth Award at that time was a strong encouragement that spurred me on to pursue an academic career,” said Dr. Chan. “The AANEM has made a strong effort to provide a nurturing environment that allows clinicians with an interest in neuromuscular disease to develop and grow. I am extremely grateful to be given the Best Abstract Award this year.”
The Best Abstract runner-up is Alexis Bashinski Shaefer, MD, of Birmingham, AL, for her abstract, “Paraneoplastic Anti-Synthetase Syndrome in a Patient With Ovarian Teratoma: Case Report.”
