Newswise — MAYWOOD, Il. – Dr. Christopher Loftus of Loyola University Medical Center has been elected Treasurer of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies.Loftus, an internationally known neurosurgeon, is chair of the Department of Neurosurgery of Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine.
The federation is a professional, scientific, nongovernmental organization that represents about 30,000 neurosurgeons worldwide. It is comprised of five continental associations, 114 national neurosurgical societies and five affiliate societies. The federation works with member societies to improve worldwide neurosurgical care, training and research to benefit patients. It has official relations with the World Health Organization.
Dr. Loftus has special expertise in the circulatory system around the brain and the treatment of both benign and malignant brain tumors, brain aneurysms, vascular malformations and blockages of the carotid artery.
Dr. Loftus is a U.S. News & World Report Top Doctor, ranked in the top 1 percent of his specialty. He has written more than 600 research papers, books and/or book chapters, articles, reviews, abstracts and special presentations.
Dr. Loftus has been a visiting professor at dozens of medical schools worldwide, and has held numerous roles within the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. He also has sat on the editorial boards for numerous neurosurgery journals around the world, and is a frequent guest lecturer at both national and international scientific meetings.
