Engineering Scientific Entrepreneurs

Many biomedical engineers are also CEOs, taking their research and developing it into biotechnology companies. But, how will scientists running a start-up company learn the ins and outs of business? The UAB schools of Engineering and Business are taking the lead to train these successful scientists to be successful businesspeople. The two schools have collaborated to offer the new MS BME: Entrepreneurship for Biomedical Engineers master's degree. The degree combines master's work in biomedical engineering with business classes to prepare students to start their own business or to work in the biomedical industry. "More than half of BME graduates will work in industry after graduation," said Linda Lucas, Ph.D., dean of engineering.
