The most popular source of new business revenue is the Internet, but it's still new ground that should be tread with care, say business consultants Ted Bos, Ph.D., UAB professor of business quantitative methods, and Warren Martin, Ph.D., UAB professor of marketing.

"E-commerce is an ever-changing and complex opportunity -- a great deal of money can be made but more can be lost by poor planning, poor implementation and poor fulfillment," says Martin. "Even more can be lost by companies who should be on the Web but are not. Several sites are in the process of folding. The Internet waters have become dangerous and deep. They will be stormy until the technology matures and broadband grows."
