(June 14, 2019) – Melinda Mangin, an associate professor of education theory, policy and administration in the Graduate School of Education at Rutgers University, is available for commentary on the latest developments concerning proposed federal rule changes that would roll back Affordable Care Act anti-discrimination protections for transgender and non-binary people, women and other communities.
Mangin’s work includes creating inclusive school communities for transgender students.
Mangin said, “Under the Affordable Care Act, it is illegal for health care providers and insurance companies to discriminate against gender-expansive and transgender people. The Trump administration's efforts to remove existing protections will sanction discrimination and decrease access to necessary medical treatment. This is yet another example of the systematic strategy employed by the Trump administration to dehumanize transgender people and legitimize government sponsored discrimination."
