Garven is the Frank S. Groner Memorial Chair of Finance, professor of Finance and Insurance, and director of the Risk Management and Insurance program at Baylor University's Hankamer School of Business. He teaches courses in risk management and financial engineering. Garven's current research includes topics such as corporate risk management, insurance economics, and option pricing theory and applications. He is an associate editor of the Journal of Risk and Insurance and vice president of the American Risk and Insurance Association, and previously served as an officer of the Risk Theory Society.
