EXPERTS TO DISCUSS NEW RESEARCH, VACCINATIONS AND DRUG THERAPIES FOR TREATING CHRONIC VIRAL HEPATITIS
Four Million Americans Infected With Hepatitis C: Few Recognizable Symptoms and Limited Treatment Options
WHO: American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) is an association of over 7,000 gastrointestinal professionals committed to the scientific study and medical treatment of disorders of the gastrointestinal tract.
WHAT: Doctors see 500,000 new cases of viral hepatitis each year. In fact, hepatitis C affects four times more people in the United States than HIV. Chronic viral hepatitis, well tolerated by many, may result in premature death from cirrhosis or liver cell cancer and is a leading indication for liver transplantation. Gastrointestinal specialists will address new research findings presented at the meeting, including:
-- Prevalence of hepatitis among health care workers
-- The latest in combination drug therapies
-- The economics of a massive immunization effort against hepatitis A
-- What's new in vaccines?
