AMY S. LANGER, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF NABCO
TO RECEIVE GILDA RADNER COURAGE AWARD, JANUARY 22

BUFFALO, NY -- Amy S. Langer, Executive Director of the National Alliance of Breast Cancer Organizations (NABCO), will receive the Gilda Radner Courage Award from the Roswell Park Alliance Community Fund-Raising Board at its 10th Annual All Star Night, Saturday, January 22, 2000, at the Adam's Mark Hotel*. The Gilda Radner Courage Award recognizes a cancer survivor whose courageous public battle, like Gilda's, has given hope to people with cancer and focused public attention on the fight against cancer. The All Star Night black-tie gala is sponsored by HSBC.

Ms. Langer is a 15-year breast cancer survivor. When she successfully completed her treatment, she left her jobs as a Senior Vice President at a New York investment bank and then as a principal in her own management consulting firm to devote all of her energies to the breast cancer patient advocacy movement. She has since transformed NABCO, a New York City -- based national non-profit network of 400 member organizations and the leading non-profit resource for breast cancer information and education, into one of the leading advocacy organizations in America.

Ms. Langer is a graduate of the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration and Yale College. She has shared her own and other women's experiences as cancer patients in expert testimony supporting critical consumer issues, such as progressive insurance legislation, patient advocacy, and mammography quality standards at the state level and before Congress. She represents NABCO's membership at national medical conferences, has been quoted in more than 1,500 national media articles. Ms. Langer appears frequently on local and national programs that include NBC's Today Show, ABC's Good Morning America, CBS News and National Public Radio, and has been an expert guest on many national satellite media tours. She is the only lay member of the National Cancer Institute's Board of Scientific Advisors, and a member of the Advisory Committee to the NCI Director.

The Roswell Park Alliance Community Fund-raising Board is a community-wide volunteer organization that supports cancer treatment, research and education programs at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. The Alliance strives to promote community awareness of the Institute through its fund-raising endeavors, community outreach and quality of life programs for patients and their families.

Roswell Park Cancer Institute, founded in 1898, is the nation's first and one of its largest cancer research, treatment and education centers and is the only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center in Western New York.
