Newswise — In Denmark, architects are running a real-life experiment to design the sustainable house of the future. The ideal house would be affordable, contribute little or no carbon dioxide to the environment, and allow its residents to inhabit it in perfect comfort. But building such a house requires a tight collaboration between engineers and designers--no simple feat. By making clever use of solar panels, solar heating, natural daylight, and built-in control systems, a group of architects and engineers have hit on a formula that they hope will reinvent the traditional home. A young family is now testing a prototype that its designers call an "Active House," where every element of the building contributes to harnessing the full power of the sun for a healthy, happy experience.
