Newswise — Hospital Compare is the outcome of a landmark public-private partnership between hospitals, government, and other health care agencies known as the Hospital Quality Alliance. With the launch of the Hospital Compare Web site, consumers will be able to research and compare hospital quality data on three common medical conditions.

As the Chief Medical Officer at NYU Medical Center, Max Cohen, M.D. has administrative responsibility for monitoring and ensuring the safety and quality of patient care and the quality of professional medical services within the Medical Center. He can address questions about this new initiative:

What does this report mean to the consumer?

How accurate are these report cards?

Is a hospital's rating more important than the quality of the physician providing your care?

If a consumer uses a hospital with a low rating, what should they do?

He will also be willing to answer questions about NYU's ranking. He is available for interviews April 1, 2005.
