How to Deflate a Padded Resume

Checking a resume to make sure all of the information on it is correct and truthful should be done for every level job, says management professor Vickie Cox Edmonson, Ph.D. "Human resource professionals should thoroughly check all resumes, no matter what the job, so they know exactly what they are getting in an employee. It's up to these HR professionals to do the research - calling former employers, checking out degrees, etc. - even if you know of the person or their reputation. It's simply a good business practice. A lot of people probably embellish the truth on their resumes, and it is unethical, but most times it's not meant to be harmful. They just want to present themselves as a capable prospect."
