Miller Children’s Hospital Nurse Practitioner Receives Distinguished Service Award Newswise — GLENVIEW, IL – Long Beach, CA nurse practitioner Joetta D. Wallace MSN RN NP-C received one of the highest honors of her profession at the 36th Annual Conference and Exhibit of the Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON), held October 4-6, 2012, Pittsburgh, PA.

The Casey Hooke Distinguished Service Award is presented annually to an APHON member who has demonstrated excellence in service to and leadership of APHON. Wallace is Program Coordinator of the Pediatric Supportive & Palliative Care Service at Miller Children’s Hospital in Long Beach, CA. She has served as a past president of national APHON as well as past treasurer. Wallace has also served as president of the Southern California APHON local chapter (SCAPHON), shared her expertise in APHON publications, and served as a co-chair of the nursing discipline research sub-committee in 2000 when the two pediatric cooperative groups merged into the Children’s Oncology Group. One of her greatest achievements is the development and mentorship of pediatric oncology nurses. Through her mentoring, she has touched the lives of countless patients and has helped develop future APHON leaders. She was cited for being a role model, team player, encourager, great communicator, pioneer, someone who practices what they preach, and above all, is a mentor to both novice and experienced nurses.
