Newswise — The Johns Hopkins Carey Business School has launched a new cohort-based MBA degree program in Health Care Management at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C. This special cohort of the MBA in Health Care Management consists of employees and medical staff from Sibley Memorial Hospital and Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Md. Students will take one business course at Sibley each semester concurrently with one online course. The 54-credit degree program can be completed in three years. Classes officially began on August 20.

“Health care is now the world’s largest industry and there is a growing need for qualified business professionals who can manage the complexities of the health care environment,” said Bernie Ferrari, MD, JD, MBA, dean of the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School. “I’m delighted that the talented health care professionals at Sibley Memorial and Suburban hospitals will be able to take advantage of the Carey Business School’s innovative MBA in Health Care Management.”

The Carey Business School MBA in Health Care Management features a blend of foundational business classes including negotiation, accounting and financial reporting, operations management and decision models, along with health care management courses such as health care delivery, financing, health and business law, and health care organization leadership. The cohort-learning format at Sibley allows all students to proceed at the same pace through the program, which strengthens learning and provides opportunities for networking and collaboration.

Sibley Memorial Hospital is in Northwest Washington, D.C. and has been a member of Johns Hopkins Medicine since 2010. Suburban Hospital became part of Johns Hopkins Medicine in 2009.
