MANHATTAN, KAN. -- Russian military history expert David Stone can answer questions about Chechnya. Given current events, Stone can discuss the origins of the Chechen conflict, the Russian wars in Chechnya, ongoing violence in Chechnya and surrounding regions of the Caucasus, and the increasing role of radical Islam in the conflict.

Stone, Kansas State University's Richard A. and Greta Bauer Pickett chair for exceptional faculty and professor of military history, specializes in Russia and the Soviet Union. He also researches military history and is the director of the Institute for Military History and 20th Century Studies at Kansas State University.

Stone is the author or editor of three books and two dozen articles on Russian and Soviet history. In 2006 he published the book "A Military History of Russia: From Ivan the Terrible to the War in Chechnya" and wrote the coverage of Chechnya for the 2012 Encyclopedia of War.

Stone has been named one of America's top young historians by the History News Network.
