Newswise — Susan Christopherson, a professor of city and regional planning in Cornell University’s College of Architecture, Art and Planning, is an economic geographer who focuses on economic development and urban labor markets. She has done research on Rochester, N.Y., for years, and comments on the announcement that one of the region’s main economic engine, Eastman Kodak Co., has filed for bankruptcy protection.

Christopherson says:

“Rochester has moved on and was recently recognized as the fastest growing employment center among mid-size U.S. cities. It has a strong and diversified economy including many small advanced manufacturing companies with global markets. The Kodak bankruptcy is sad, but will hardly slow down an economy that has been moving away from dependence on photographic equipment for many years.”
