Latest Research in Anesthesia, Pain Medicine and Patient Safety Unveiled

The latest medical research, equipment and techniques for providing safe anesthesia and pain management care to patients will be unveiled when the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) holds its annual meeting on October 13-17, 2001, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Members of the media are invited to report on the many notable scientific presentations that have direct bearing on their community's health and safe anesthesia care.

Topics of public interest to be discussed include:

-- Some of the first data showing a direct link between herbal use and surgical complications.-- With pinpoint accuracy, anesthesiologists deliver effective and long-term lower back pain treatment. -- An effective treatment saves trauma patients: it is suspended animation.-- New techniques for working in deep water or deep space are being developed on terra firma.-- Fetal surgery: What happens when it involves three patients at the same time?
