While Evan Marriott's deception on Joe Millionaire is an extreme example, research from a Baylor University psychology professor shows that over 90 percent of college students -- both male and female -- have told a lie to score a date.
According to Wade Rowatt, who's been studying the habits of romantic liars for years, both men and women have a tendency to lie about everything from their level of kindness to their physical appearance. Yes, they even lie about their wealth and status too, but those are rare occasions.
"The dating process is really a dance between two individuals," says Rowatt. "Men and women are in tune to the qualities and needs of the opposite sex. If they don't meet those standards, they'll say they do. For example, if a woman wants an outgoing man, an introverted guy will probably lie and say he fits that quality."
