Baldwin Wallace University Pilots Beneficial New Student Teaching Model
Baldwin Wallace UniversityAs Ohio teachers prepared to be evaluated on student test scores, they increasingly began to balk at turning their classrooms over to student teachers. The resulting placement shortage inspired a grassroots alliance of Ohio education stakeholders to seek new ways to provide this crucial classroom experience to future teachers in training. Co-teaching, a new approach borrowed from special education is now being piloted by Baldwin Wallace University in the Berea, Ohio schools. The method aims to reverse the shortage of student teaching placements, fueled by fears about new accountability standards for teachers.
