Dr. Abhijit Gosavi’s dream of solving air pollution began when he was a boy in India. It was the 1980s, and Gosavi, who had suffered from asthma since birth, recalls gazing out the window across a hazy mirage crowded with filth-spewing factory chimneys.
A year ago, Somaya Faruqi huddled in desperation with thousands of other Afghans inside Hamid Karzai airport in Kabul, Afghanistan, frantically trying to get a flight out of the country after the Taliban returned to power. Like a fire in a wall, fires in electric vehicle (EV) batteries burn unseen. Firefighters can squelch the visible flames in an EV fire, but chemicals inside the battery continue to burn because firefighters cannot reach the source.
