Newswise — MAYWOOD, Il. – Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine was among the top 20 percent of all medical institutions in first-authored abstracts accepted for presentation at the 102nd Annual Meeting of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) in Baltimore.
Loyola also was in the top ten programs in the world in first-authored abstracts submitted for the prestigious Stowell-Orbison Awards Competition for pathologists-in-training. All abstracts were subject to blinded peer review by four experts in the respective field, and the cutoff score was high.
In a letter to Eva Wojcik, MD, chair of Loyola’s Department of Pathology, USCAP Executive Vice President and Secretary-Treasurer Bruce R. Smoller, MD, wrote: “It is obvious that your institution has worked hard to support and generate these important studies, which will heop advance the specialty of pathology as well as medicine in general.”
USCAP is the premier academic society of anatomic, surgical pathology and diagnostic molecular pathology and the annual meeting is by far the largest gathering of physician-pathologists in the world.
