The single greatest issue raised by families today is that they don't have enough time to spend as a family doing things they enjoy, according to UAB developmental psychologists Sharon Ramey, Ph.D., and Craig Ramey, Ph.D.

In their book, "Going to School -- How to Help Your Child Succeed," the Rameys say studies show parents often feel rushed and always behind schedule.

The Rameys suggest reviewing which activities are essential to fulfill the family's goals and values. Ask if each activity achieves results that make sense in light of the time and money you have to invest. Your answers will help you ensure you're not devoting too much or too little time to a certain activity.
