WHAT: The Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) is hosting its annual Food Policy Impact Conference in Washington D.C. The conference brings together professionals in food law, regulation and policy to learn approaches that will make a tangible impact on the future.

WHO: Fred H. Degnan, Partner, King & Spalding who formerly served as FDA’s Associate Chief Counsel for Foods and as an Associate Chief Counsel for Enforcement will discuss major food policy achievements of 2012 during the opening session

Additional sessions feature a variety of highly-esteemed speakers from organizations such as:• Grocery Manufacturers Association • National Fisheries Institute • International Food Information Council• Leavitt Partners LLC• Consumers Union• Food Marketing Institute • Food Safety Net Services • Health Canada• Center for Science in the Public Interest

The conference will also offer a session highlighting FSMA advancements and approaches; a moderated panel discussion on genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in the U.S.; and a session on Canada’s regulatory modernization project progress and implications.

The conference will close with a session called “What’s in Store for 2013 and Beyond?” that will highlight the implications of the 2012 election results and speakers will provide insights about potential food policy opportunities and challenges in 2013 and 2014.
