Newswise — AARP has named NYU Medical Center as a Best Employer for Workers Over 50. The honor was given to just 35 employers nationwide who have demonstrated exemplary practices with regard to recruitment, retention and promotion of older workers. NYU is the only hospital in the Metropolitan area honored and one of only 3 employers in New York State who made the list.

NYU Medical Center was chosen because it offers a range of benefits, services, and programs for all staff and faculty and is especially committed to retaining experienced staff. They include an extensive Organizational Development and Learning Department offering on-site educational and skill enhancing programs and a robust wellness program that provides early disease detection screenings, health lectures, weight loss programs, exercise, massage, yoga, and stress management, among others. Also available is a comprehensive benefits package that is intended to address both the current and future needs of faculty and staff throughout the various stages of their lives.

NYU Medical Center and 34 other employers will be honored September 23, 2004 at the AARP Best Employers For Workers Over 50 recognition dinner. The dinner will be held at the Essex House in New York City. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao will be the featured speaker.

The following morning, AARP and their co-sponsor BusinessWeek will convene a business leaders forum to examine corporate best practices for a mature workforce. Awardees, opinion leaders, representatives from major businesses across the country, human resource professionals and others will attend.
