Newswise — CHICAGO—The Institute of Food Technologists announced today that it has partnered with HealthFocus International to commission original research, which will be unveiled at the IFT Wellness 13 Consumer panel session. This study explores American teens’ food choices, influencers, and how teens define health.

IFT Wellness 13--taking place at the Intercontinental Chicago O’Hare February 27 and 28—is a must-attend for food professionals who want to discover new, innovative ways to create and market healthful products, while maintaining a focus on nutrition, sustainability, taste, safety, and compliance. In addition to the consumer panel session, highlights for this year include:Keynote Speaker—Michael W. Smith, M.D., medical director and chief medical editor, WebMDDr. Smith will lead the opening session, Year in Health—What Mattered Most to Consumers. Since 2010, WebMD has published the Year in Health results, which focus on their top health stories, searches, questions, and trends. Dr. Smith will discuss the 2012 Year in Health data as it relates to food health and wellness. General Session: Preventing Childhood ObesityMiriam Nelson, Ph.D., Professor, Nutrition, Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy and Director, John Hancock Research Center on Physical Activity, Nutrition, and Obesity Prevention, Tufts University will cover how organizations across the globe are addressing the issue of childhood obesity.

Closing Session—The Nutrition Benchmark: Who’s Improving America’s HealthThis session will be lead by Lu Ann Williams, Director of Innovation, Innova Market Insights. Attendees will discover how companies compare when it comes to nutrient composition. In addition, they will learn what products are succeeding, and where to find a winning combination.

Wellness 13 will also feature several sessions in three concurrent tracks: Consumer Lifestyles & Demographics; Emerging Opportunities; and Healthier Living.
