NYU MEDICAL CENTER WELCOMES NEW CHAIRMAN OF RADIOLOGY

NEW YORK - Robert I. Grossman, MD, has been named Chairman of the Department of Radiology at NYU School of Medicine and Director of Radiology at NYU Hospitals Center. He also will hold the Lewis Marx Professorship.

Dr. Grossman is one of the world's leading authorities in the science and practice of radiology. He comes to NYU from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where he was Associate Chairman of Radiology; Professor of Radiology, Neurosurgery, and Neurology; and Chief of Neuroradiology.

During his tenure at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Grossman's research on multiple sclerosis resulted in new techniques for evaluating and monitoring response to treatment. With a lifelong commitment to medical ethics, he has worked to ensure that clinical research meets the highest ethical standards. He has mentored more than 100 neuroradiologists, some of whom have become leaders in their field in the United States and abroad.

As the author of more than 250 original scientific papers and three books, and as a contributor to 19 additional books on radiology and neuroradiology, Dr. Grossman has established an international reputation in several fields. He is the recipient of dozens of awards and honors, including the 1999 Javits Neuroscience Investigator Award from the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Grossman received his BS from Tulane University and his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He completed his internship in surgery at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston; his residencies in radiology and neurosurgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania; and a fellowship in neuroradiology at Massachusetts General Hospital.
