Newswise — Lenard Adler, M.D., an expert in adult ADHD at New York University School of Medicine is available to comment on an article in the Journal of the American Medical Association (embargoed: 9/23 4PM), "ADHD Often Undiagnosed in Adults: Appropriate Treatment May Benefit Work, Family, Social Life." It discusses advances in diagnoses and treatment of adult ADHD that were explored at the annual meeting of the American Psychiatric Association.

The article lists the ADHD Self-Report Scale as a valid screening test for adult ADHD. The scale, which was created by Dr. Adler in conjunction with the World Health Organization, is available online at www.med.nyu.edu/Psych/training/adhd.html.

"Adult ADHD is a rather impairing condition," says Lenard Adler, Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and Neurology at NYU School of Medicine. " These adults are more likely to repeat a grade, change jobs, under-perform on the job, be separated or divorced, use substances, and have more speeding tickets and motor vehicle accidents."
