Newswise — Marina Kovalevsky, age 49, and her daughter Yanna, age 26, arrived at the Cedars-Sinai Emergency Department on Wednesday, March 7, at approximately 6:20 p.m. PT. They were evaluated by physicians in the Emergency Department and admitted to the hospital.

As of 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, both women are in fair but stable condition.

It is still too early to determine exactly what may have caused their illness, but at this point there does not appear to be any radiation involved. They are currently receiving tests to determine the diagnosis, however they are both being treated for presumptive thallium poisoning. Their date of discharge has not been determined. They are expected to remain in the hospital for a few more days.

We will continue to provide updates on their status as they become available.
