Newswise — The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Section on Adolescent Health presented its Adele Dellenbaugh Hofmann Award to Robert T. Brown, M.D., chief of the section of adolescent health at Columbus Children's Hospital and professor of clinical pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health.

The Adele Dellenbaugh Hofmann award is given each year to an individual who exemplifies excellence in the field of adolescent health. Specifically, the individual must be an advocate for adolescents and a leader in enhancing the care of the adolescent in pediatrics. The award was presented to Brown on October 11, 2004 during the AAP's National Conference and Exhibition held in San Francisco.

"Dr. Brown has devoted his career to delivering high-quality care to adolescents with a wide array of medical and psychosocial problems," said Thomas N. Hansen, M.D., chief executive officer of Columbus Children's Hospital and chairman of the department of pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health. "His leadership in the field of pediatrics is inspiring and we are honored to have him as part of our team."

Brown received his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He completed his residency at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, also in Philadelphia, and his fellowship at the University of Alabama in Birmingham before joining Columbus Children's Hospital in 1982. Brown is the past chair of the AAP's Section of Adolescent Health and former program chair and president of the North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology. He also previously served as an executive board member of the Society for Adolescent Medicine and was a co-founder and past president of the Ohio Valley Chapter of the Society for Adolescent Medicine. Currently, he serves as medical director for the Stecker Scholar program at Columbus Children's Hospital, a program that provides mentorship opportunities for international physicians and nurses. He is also an executive board member of the AWARE Foundation, an organization devoted to public education on adolescent health and sexuality issues.
