As early as next week, Congress may vote on the proposed nuclear waste site at Yucca Mountain in Nevada, and a University of Wisconsin-Madison expert can offer insights on the issues involved in nuclear waste disposal.

Engineering Physics Professor Michael L. Corradini, who has been named by President George W. Bush to chair the U.S. Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board, has considerable experience researching the issue and can discuss many aspects of nuclear waste disposal.

A member of the National Academy of Engineering, Corradini has been a consultant to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards and to the DOE's national laboratories.

Corradini is chair of the Department of Engineering Physics at UW-Madison and director of the Wisconsin Institute of Nuclear Systems. Before joining the UW-Madison faculty, Corradini spent three years on the technical staff of Sandia National Laboratories, where he conducted research on severe accidents. He received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Marquette University in Milwaukee and his master's and Ph.D. in nuclear engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
