A recent survey of more than 2,000 public school students in grades 8 through 11 by the American Association of University Women Educational Foundation found that four out of five say they have experienced some type of sexual harassment at school.

Loucrecia Collins, Ed.D., a UAB conflict resolution expert and former elementary school principal, says schools should not only have sexual harassment policies, they should post the policies in the hallways "so students and their parents are aware of the policy. At the beginning of the school year, teachers should go over the policy with their students and make sure they have a clear understanding of the definition of sexual harassment. And, principals should follow up and investigate any complaint of sexual harassment."
