Newswise — Theodore J. Saclarides, MD, FACS, has been named director of the division of Colorectal Surgery at Loyola University Health System. Dr. Saclarides also will serve as professor of surgery at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine.
Dr. Saclarides was recruited to Loyola from Rush University Medical Center.“Nationally and internationally acclaimed for his demonstrated clinical excellence and compassionate patient care, Ted Saclarides will help reinforce Loyola’s reputation as a leader in colorectal surgery and research,” said Paul C. A graduate of Vanderbilt University in chemistry and mathematics, Dr. Saclarides received his medical degree from the University of Miami, Florida. He completed a residency in general surgery and also a surgical internship at Rush in Chicago. Dr. Saclarides completed a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
Dr. Saclarides has been on staff at Rush since 1988 and most recently served as head of the section of Colon and Rectal Surgery, Department of General Surgery at Rush and professor of surgery at Rush Medical College.
A fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, Dr. Saclarides is a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and American Medical Society. He has authored several books and more than 100 manuscripts, abstracts and chapters. He also serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Surgical Oncology and is a reviewer for several medical journals.
Dr. Saclarides was recognized as a top surgeon this year by U.S. News & World Report and was ranked in the top 1 percent in his specialty by Castle Connelly. Dr. Saclarides is a funded investigator who led research studies at Rush focusing on colorectal and colon conditions. His clinical expertise includes laparoscopy, anal sphincter reconstruction, cancer prevention and screening, colorectal cancer, hereditary colorectal disorders, colorectal surgery, incontinence, inflammatory bowel disease, specifically Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, pelvic-floor disorders and transanal endoscopic microsurgery.
