Newswise — The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is awarding two new Community Treatment and Services (CTS) Center grants for a total of up to $1.5 million for up to two years. These new grants are part of SAMHSA's National Child Traumatic Stress initiative. These grants are designed to identify and implement best practices to address child trauma needs in communities. These best practices include delivering effective services for children and adolescents exposed to a wide array of traumatic events. Two programs have been awarded funding for up to two years. The actual award amounts may vary, depending on the availability of funds and the progress achieved by the awardees.  The funds are administered by SAMHSA’s Center for Mental Health Services. The grant recipients are:The Mental Health Center of Denver will lead a consortium of community and government agencies to implement the Gang Reduction Initiative of Denver-Trauma Treatment project in Denver, Co.  The program will target youth ages 11 to 17, primarily African American and Latino who are gang involved or at risk of gang involvement.  This program was awarded up to $380,000. The Center for Success and Independence, Inc. will provide trauma informed screening, assessment, and treatment services for adolescents, ages 12 to 17 involved in the local juvenile justice system in Harris County, Tx.  This program will receive up to $380,000.
