NOTE: Doctors of the Dark Side (www.doctorsofthedarkside.com) documents the critical role of physicians and psychologists in the torture of detainees in US custody. It combines interviews with military and intelligence personnel, medical experts and defense lawyers together with staged demonstrations of government directives to the doctors assisting Enhanced Interrogation Techniques, and cases illustrating the four ways that doctors have assisted detainee abuse according to declassified documents.

Director Martha Davis (Interrogation Psychologists) spent four years investigating the controversy and produced the documentary with an award-winning team that includes Oscar-winners Mark Jonathan Harris (Writer) and Mercedes Ruehl (Narrator), and Emmy-winner Lisa Rinzler (Director of Photography). Doctors who previewed a final cut of the film at Johns Hopkins Medical Center called it “very powerful” and “extremely well done.”

The four panelists will discuss the controversy over doctor accountability for torture, the state legislation proposed to strengthen licensing oversight, and the potential of this legislation to decrease prisoner abuse and torture.

This event is presented by the NYU School of Medicine Center for Health and Human Rights and the Bellevue/NYU Program for Survivors of Torture. It is co-sponsored by NYU Medical Student Chapter of Physicians for Human Rights, NYU Medical Student Bioethics Interest Group, and Psychologists for Social Responsibility, New York Area Chapter.
