From May 19-21 in Austin, Tex. Leading Pain Clinicians and Researchers Will Convene

Newswise — Pain medication misuse and ways to control it is a complex and controversial issue that will be talked about extensively at the annual meeting of the American Pain Society, May 19-21 in Austin, Tex. Two panel sessions on Friday morning, May 20, will be devoted to pain medication abuse, how to avoid it, and methods for treating pain patients with substance use disorders.

APS is the leading multidisciplinary professional organization in the United States dedicated to advancing pain-related research, education, treatment and team-oriented professional practice. Some 2,000 scientists and clinicians specializing in pain and pain management are expected to attend the meeting.

Other noteworthy topics to be covered in the scientific sessions are novel targets for drug development for migraine and neuropathic pain, pediatric analgesic development and new scientific findings on transdermal delivery of pain medication.

This keynote speaker is Josephine P. Briggs, MD, director, National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. In her address on Thursday, May 19, Dr. Briggs will share her insights on current and promising applications of alternative health practices for successful pain management.
