Newswise — Steven J. Thompson, CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine International (JHI), has won one of the World Trade Center Institute’s Annual International Business Leadership Awards for 2013. The award, which recognizes Thompson’s accomplishments as an entrepreneurial international business leader during a period of rapid growth and change institutionally and in the marketplace, was presented on May 2, 2013 at The Jim Rouse Visionary Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
“We have been expanding our presence worldwide rapidly,” says Thompson. “This award recognizes all the people who contributed to our achievements, highlights JHI's contribution to Maryland’s economy and affirms our commitment to the expansion of Johns Hopkins Medicine’s mission.”
The international leadership awards are presented each year to individuals who have led their organizations to new levels of successful global outreach, demonstrating an entrepreneurial spirit and the determination, creativity and cultural sensitivity that global business demands.
Over the past several years, under Thompson’s leadership, Johns Hopkins has amplified its capabilities and has added to its portfolio a number of new projects that focus around areas such as research development and health system strengthening with respected institutions in Latin America, Asia and the Middle East. JHI has also reinvigorated its own services, specifically those that make it easier for patients traveling to access care and for people with limited English proficiency.
The World Trade Center Institute (WTCI), the largest international business network of its kind in the mid-Atlantic states, connects more than 2,500 Maryland companies.
