Newswise — Want to do something unique this summer? If you are a high school student, college undergraduate or science educator, you may qualify for one of the newly-created summer intern positions at the Center for Research in Contraceptive and Reproductive Health at the University of Virginia Health System.

The Center is planning to fill three paid internships in contraceptive research and development with a high school student, a college undergraduate and a science educator, respectively. During the 12-week program, participants will learn about fundamental processes that control reproduction and work side-by-side with UVA scientists on research projects in reproductive biology and protein structure.

During the program, which will be tailored to each individual's level of education and experience, interns will engage in a core curriculum that includes required reading, weekly think tank discussions and monthly presentations by leading experts from around the country. Interns will work under the direction of faculty mentors and will have an opportunity to master one or two research methods and gain experience in the scientific method, hypothesis-building and model testing.

The program will begin June 8 and conclude August 28. Interested applicants should contact Lois M. Rowsey at [email protected] for more information.
