Newswise — WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 17, 2012) – Longtime women’s health advocate and former pharmaceutical company executive, Dennis Cryer, MD, FAHA, joins the Society for Women’s Health Research (SWHR) Board of Directors following another successful Gala dinner on May 10, 2012.

Dr. Cryer brings a wealth of business experience to the SWHR Board along with medical research expertise in the areas of genetics, cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome (cardiometabolic risk), diabetes, pediatrics, and women’s health. He is the current Chief Medical Officer for CryerHealth LLC, a strategic consulting firm serving the US and international healthcare communities.

His interest in women’s health dates back to the 1960s, when it became an obvious area of disparity following the start of the civil rights era. In fact, Cryer’s grandmother was an active Suffragette, thus planting the seed for his interest in women’s rights at an early age.

“Dr. Cryer is a wonderful addition to the SWHR Board of Directors,” said Phyllis Greenberger, MSW, president and CEO of SWHR. “His business savvy and medical research experience will prove invaluable for future SWHR programs and the overall direction of the organization.”

Along with his research experience, Cryer is the former longtime Vice President of External Medical Affairs for Bristol-Myers Squibb U.S. Pharmaceuticals and Chief Medical Officer for Indigo Pharmaceuticals. He received his BA from Johns Hopkins University and his MD from Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
