But for those who are hospitalized during the holidays – especially children – these traditions take on even more meaning. Jersey Shore University Medical Center, home to K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital, creates magical holiday experiences for patients by hosting a variety of entertainers and special performances.
“The holiday season can be extra stressful for those hospitalized, especially children. But when entertainers and volunteers visit, families and patients feel the positive impact. And while adults enjoy the music and kids have fun with toys and presents, the greater gift is the goodwill, support and spirit of these visits,” says Kenneth N. Sable, M.D., MBA, FACEP, president of Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
The festivities at the children’s hospital are led by the Child Life team – caregivers who create a fun, supportive hospital environment. Child Life reduces the stress associated with illness through creative play, activities, education, and entertainment to create a light-hearted atmosphere that supports the emotional well-being of young patients and their families – especially important during Christmas and Hanukkah.
This holiday season, Jersey Shore and K. Hovnanian’s Children’s Hospital has unique participation from a variety of entertainers sure to bring joy and laughter to hospital patients, with a special focus on children:
Country Music Star Jessie Chris – On Wednesday, December 9 at 9:00 a.m., Country music breakthrough star Jessie Chris will visit K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital and sing some of her hits, along with holiday favorites. At just 18 years old, Jessie was the youngest performer on the main stage at this year's CMA Festival in Nashville.
Monmouth Civic Chorus – On Wednesday, December 9 at 3:00 p.m. in Jersey Shore’s Kurr Atrium, the award winning Monmouth Civic Chorus will entertain patients, caregivers and guests with a holiday concert during the hospital’s annual tree lighting ceremony.
Harlem Globetrotter “Cheese” Chisolm – On Friday, December 11 at 11:00 a.m., Harlem Globetrotter “Cheese” Chisholm will delight kids (and adults!) with his incredible basketball moves, which helped he and a teammate break the Guinness World Records® record for the most three pointers made by a pair in one minute!
