Newswise — In an effort to engage and connect members through the power of social networking, The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) has launched a video contest, “TMS, MSE & Me.” The contest coincides with the creation of the TMS YouTube channel, ChannelTMS.

“Materials science and engineering is a serious profession, but that doesn’t mean that its practitioners don’t like to have a little fun,” said James Robinson, TMS chief operating executive.

The video contest will allow members to celebrate how TMS has enriched both their personal lives and their materials science and engineering careers.

TMS will award a cash prize of $2,010 to the top video, $750 to second place and $250 for third place.

With members in 68 countries who range from students to senior level professionals, TMS has embraced a Web 2.0 approach to bond and build the Society by adding this creative interlude for the TMS 2010 Annual Meeting & Exhibition in Seattle, Washington February 14-18. “The TMS membership is rich in intelligent, creative, and motivated individuals. I have no doubt that we are going to see some brilliant entries to our video competition,” said Robinson.

At least one TMS member must appear in the submitted video and the theme is limited only by the videographer’s imagination. Contestants must establish a YouTube account to submit footage to ChannelTMS at: www.youtube.com/channelTMS.

To enter the contest and review the rules, visit TMS, MSE & Me home page at: www.tms.org/VideoContest.

All winners will be announced February 14 at the annual meeting. For more information on TMS 2010, visit the Web site at: www.tms.org/TMS2010.
