HOUSTON – (Aug. 29, 2013) – Keely Smith, M.D., assistant professor of pediatrics at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) Medical School, has been awarded the Children at Risk Child Health Advocacy Award.
Smith is director of the Pediatric Residency Program. She was recognized for promoting community-based pediatric child health and legislative advocacy among UTHealth pediatric residents.
In the announcement letter to Smith, Robert Sanborn, president and CEO of Children at Risk, wrote: “You have helped to bring attention to crucial children’s issues and have helped to inspire fellow medical professionals to advocate for children’s needs. It is work like yours, done by individuals like you, that will help to achieve a better future for our children.”
Smith graduated from and completed her internal medicine/pediatrics residency at the UTHealth Medical School. Her research and clinical interests include pediatric residency education and training; childhood asthma; vocal cord dysfunction; and epidemiology and management for severe asthma.
