Newswise — Collexis Inc., a leading knowledge management software developer, recently entered the first phase of collaboration with Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) to develop an Expert Profiler System. Based on the principle of fingerprinting, the resulting system will be a unique virtual knowledge directory. Described as "Google on Steroids," Collexis utilizes conceptual searches to minimize superfluous information and allow investigators and researchers to mine data at an intuitive, non-language specific level. The applications allow researchers to search, index, aggregate, prioritize, trend and make predictions based on a variety of sources, in multiple fields, without the limitations of language or dialect.
William Kirkland, Collexis CEO, explained, "Essentially, Collexis software creates a fingerprint for each piece of text that contains relevant information, such as competence sheets or project descriptions. The fingerprinting process makes use of the structure of a particular field's professional terminology (fundamentally a thesaurus). This technique embodies the way people understand those terms and concepts. We are thrilled that MSM has joined with a distinguished group of health sciences pioneers representing other institutions and companies in finding ways to increase efficiency and effectiveness in categorizing their research accomplishments."
As a result of the new initiative, research collaborations between disciplines will be simplified and enhanced, while marketing efforts and donor relation activities will be assisted. This technology is exactly what we were searching for given the increased complexity of performing translational research."
The Expert Profiler System project is being carried out via a working relationship with German-based Collexis Development partner SyynX Solutions. SyynX CEO, Christian Herzog M.D. commented, "It is an exciting project to work on and very fulfilling to develop applications that will benefit health-care users around the world."
