Newswise — Robert W. "Bob" Herbert, an independent corrosion consultant for Ashland Performance Materials (Dublin, Ohio), will serve as president of NACE International for the 2008-2009 term.

A member of ASM International since 1985, Bob has been an independent corrosion consultant since 1998, and currently serves as Corrosion Consultant for Ashland Performance Materials, a Division of Ashland Inc. who is sponsoring him in this endeavor as NACE President.

Bob has been a member of NACE International since 1979. His contributions to the organization during this time are large in number and broad in scope. He has served in all capacities within the Pittsburgh Section and Eastern Area (formerly Northeast Region), including various positions within section and area conferences.

He served as National Director on the Board of Directors from 1992 to 1995 and as Member Director representing the Region Management Committee from 1992 to 1994. He has served in various capacities on the Finance, Regional Management, Policy, and Publications Committees. He has been a member of the Certification Committee since 1992.

Bob has a history of active participation In numerous technical committees, which Included acting as T-5A-26 Metal Section Technical Editor for the NACE published book, "Process Industries Corrosion, the Theory and Practice".

He received the 1985 NACE Pittsburgh Section Outstanding Service Award and 1996 NACE Distinguished Service Award. He holds NACE Corrosion Specialist and Materials Selection and Design Specialist certifications.

Bob has 35 years of experience in corrosion engineering including 27 years with Dravo Corporation's Chemical Plants Division, a large international engineering, procurement, and construction firm specializing in services to the processing industries, where he was Manager of Materials Science and Corrosion Technology. He received his BS from Youngstown State University.
