Patients With Lung Diseases and Sleep Disorders and Their Families Invited to Learn from Experts at ATS 2014 Patient Event Newswise — The American Thoracic Society (ATS) will hold its annual patient-focused forum "Meet-the Experts," as part of the ATS International Conference in San Diego this coming May. This free patient/family event is organized and hosted by the ATS Public Advisory Roundtable (ATS PAR) and will be held on Saturday, May 17th from 10:00 am to 2:00 p.m. at the Manchester Grand Hyatt hotel in San Diego, CA.

The Meet-the-Experts forum is open to lung patients and their families and will feature expert speakers as well as a number of breakout sessions designed to give patients and their families a chance to interact with prominent pulmonologists. It is also an opportunity for patients to meet other individuals who share their experience with lung disease. The theme for this year’s forum is "Living Your Best Life with Lung Disease" and the focus of the talks will be on the interconnectedness of lung diseases.

"This Meet the Expert session is designed to put patients in direct interaction with these experts to allow them to learn, answer questions, and connect with others facing the same or similar issues," says ATS PAR Chair Regina Vidaver, PhD.

The breakout sessions will see informal discussions on the latest in research, clinical trials, and clinical care with experts on many different lung and airway diseases including: pulmonary fibrosis, Hermansky-Pudlak Syndrome, pulmonary hypertension, lung cancer, sarcoidosis, sleep disorders, scleroderma and lung transplantation.

Lunch will be provided free of charge and complimentary parking is available. The ATS will also provide an oxygen refill station at this event for those patients in need. Interested persons are asked to RSVP to Mr. Courtney White at [email protected] by or before May 2nd, 2014.
