The George Washington University has the following experts available to comment on disaster preparedness and response and hurricane risk management in relation to Hurricane Arthur:

Joseph A. Barbera, co-director of the Institute for Crisis, Disaster and Risk Management, is an expert on emergency management, management of large-scale incident response, management of volunteers in major disasters and mass casualty and public health emergency response.

Joost Santos, assistant professor of engineering management and systems engineering, is an expert on hurricane consequence management, notably mitigating the ripple effects triggered by infrastructure failures. According to Dr. Santos, a fundamental question to ask is: What are the interdependent effects of electric power outages and road closures to the affected regional communities, and how do these effects translate to disruptions in workforce availability and economic productivity?

GW’s Flash Studio, a state-of-the-art broadcast studio, is available for remote, live or taped television and radio interviews. The studio is operated in partnership with VideoLink.
