Newswise — HOUSTON – (July 15, 2015) – Free cervical and breast cancer screenings and community health information will be available for women ages 21 to 64 who are uninsured or underinsured at the “See, Test & Treat” event hosted by UT Physicians Bayshore Multispecialty Clinic on Saturday, Aug. 1.
The screenings will be from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and health education will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The clinic is located at 11476 Space Center Boulevard, Suite 100, Houston, TX, 77059.
Space is limited and pre-registration is recommended by calling 832-748-2321 or 281-885-9669. The event is sponsored by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Foundation. UT Physicians is the clinical practice of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) Medical School.
“See, Test & Treat has touched the lives of thousands of underserved women across the United States by providing free cervical and breast cancer screening, same-day results and follow-up treatment and care,” said Joseph Lucci III, M.D., professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at UTHealth Medical School. “See, Test & Treat can lead to early detection of cervical and breast cancer and save lives.”
All screenings will be performed by obstetrician and gynecology residents and board certified obstetricians, gynecologists, gynecologic oncologists and pathologists from UT Physicians. Pap tests, mammograms (ages 40 to 64) and testing for human papillomavirus (HPV) will be available with same-day results. Women should expect to wait up to three hours for results. Bilingual staff and ancillary services will be available.
“While women wait for their test results, they can enjoy a healthy meal with their families and clinic volunteers, building a relationship between communities and health care providers,” Lucci said. “Moreover, patients connect with a medical home and insurance market place navigators for better long-term health outcomes.”
